ATMC Extends Hours of Operation
Shallotte, NC – Allen Russ, CEO/General Manager of ATMC, has announced that the cooperative will be extending its hours of operation beginning March 1, 2010. In addition, ATMC will also now be open on the Friday after Thanksgiving and on Christmas Eve.
New hours will be Monday through Friday, 8AM-6PM, excluding holidays. This includes both the Shallotte and Sunset Beach locations. The Repair Department will continue with its Saturday schedule of 8AM-5PM response to trouble reports.
Rep. Mike McIntyre to Present Check To Leland Volunteer Fire Dept. Wednesday, Feb. 17
Leland, NC – US Representative Mike McIntyre will present a check to the Leland Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday February, 17th at 9:45 am. His appearance will be at the main Firehouse located at 1004 Village Rd.
An email CFBN recieved stated The taxpayer funds Representative McIntyre will be distributing were appropriated from the US Dept. of Homeland Security, firefighters assistance program. The email further states the funds will help with operations and safety improvements. The Congressman will probably be available for 30 minutes. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Snow Brightens Brunswicks Little Princess Ball
Southport, NC – A procession of princesses from across the county traveled through a winder wonderland to attend the sold-out 2nd Annual Little Princess Ball with the special men in their lives. A joint venture by Brunswick County Parks and Recreation and Communities In Schools (CIS), the Ball attracted over two hundred fifty kindergarten to fifth grade girls and their fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other male role models. “For two hours my daughter had my undivided attention, something that doesn’t happen every day,” said CIS Board Member Alan Cheatham whose daughter Catherine attends Union Elementary School. “Girls from every walk of life were made to feel like princesses, and every man there can be proud of having taken the time to make them feel that way.”

National Weather Service Names Brunswick Community Hospital as North Carolina’s Second StormReady Hospital
Supply, NC – The National Weather Service recently named Brunswick Community Hospital a StormReady Supporter for the hospital’s exemplary efforts in storm preparedness. Brunswick Community Hospital is only the second hospital in North Carolina to receive this prestigious recognition.
“The National Weather Service is pleased to recognize Brunswick Community Hospital as a StormReady Supporter,” said Steven Pfaff, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “As a result, Brunswick Community Hospital is in a better position to handle any weather-related emergency that may threaten the area through planning, education, and enhanced communications within the hospital community.”

TABOR CITY, NC – William Roy admits his weight used to be an issue, and he has Type 2 Diabetes. When his employer stopped offering health insurance, Roy found he was uninsurable by traditional insurers.
“Nobody wanted to take me in so I was one of the Americans without health insurance,” said Roy, a minister with Old Zion Wesleyan Church.

CIS Ask, Tennis Anyone? – Exercise, Control, and Fun Served After School
Brunswick County, NC – As part of the Communities In Schools (CIS) After School program, students are being introduced to the ABC’s of tennis: Ability, Balance, and Coordination. Through the efforts of John Keilman, the US Tennis Association and PTR Foundation have supplied the equipment needed to continue the pilot program started last year with the Brunswick County Tennis Assoc. “We are thrilled to be able to resume this activity.
