Sea Dawgs Join Continental Basketball League

Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Sea Dawgs are pleased to announce that they will be joining the newly formed Continental Basketball League (CBL) for their 2010 season.

Two key factors contributed to the decision. First, the management team of the Sea Dawgs was drawn to the more regional approach offered by the CBL.

“The opportunity to create rivalries closer to home has strong appeal to us,” says Sea Dawgs Head Coach Dale Kuhl. “Most CBL teams will be within a six hour drive of Wilmington.”

Secondly, from both a player recruiting and a player retention perspective, the Sea Dawgs saw value in the CBL’s spring/summer schedule. The season will run from April until July. Sea Dawgs fans will see the number of home games grow to at least eleven, with the majority of games to take place on the weekends.

“With the change in seasons and leagues, the Sea Dawgs are hoping to bring additional talent to the team.” says Kuhl. “We hope to become the summer home to top talent on break from the foremost leagues in Europe.”

The Sea Dawgs owners have given notice to the Premier Basketball League (PBL) that it will not be participating in their upcoming 2010 season.

“We have enjoyed being a part of the Premier Basketball League these past two years,” says Sea Dawgs co-owner Pete Gratale.  “However, at the end of the day, we need to do what is in the long-term best interest of our organization.  We hope to continue providing our fans with an exciting entertainment option for many years to come.”

“We are thrilled to add the Sea Dawgs to our new league,” says CBL Commissioner executive Dennis Truax. “They are the kind of strong, well organized club that fits our league model. We are pleased to have them as a charter member the CBL.”

Since its inception in 2006, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs have achieved winning records each season.  Additional achievements include live webcasting of home games, community involvement with over 50 local non-for-profit organizations and providing over 30 area college students with hands-on sports management experience.
