Cape Fear Credit Union Opens Branch Office in Leland

LELAND, NC – Cape Fear Credit Union has selected the Brunswick County town of Leland as the location for its new branch. The branch expansion adds a second full-service location to the 30 year-old Wilmington, NC-based operation of Cape Fear Credit Union.

Expanding into Leland is the right thing to do for the credit union’s existing membership and for the region says Cape Fear Credit Union branch manager Melody McBroom. “Most of our members live or work in either Brunswick or New Hanover counties, and with this new branch we’re now more conveniently located for many of our members and all of the residents of Brunswick County,” says McBroom.

New for the Leland branch is the addition of a small business loan officer to serve Brunswick and New Hanover county residents. This personalized, in-house, small business lending approach is intended to be responsive to Leland’s fast-growing business environment.

Membership in Cape Fear Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Brunswick or New Hanover counties. Being of service to all residents is a message strongly promoted by McBroom and her staff. “We like to say that we have something for everyone. That’s to say we pride ourselves on providing responsible financial products and great customer service to people of all walks of life. So for full-time or part-time coastal residents who can really benefit from the deposit accounts and loan products we offer, we want to be your preferred local credit union,” says McBroom.

Currently, Cape Fear Credit Union serves approximately 3,000 members by providing deposit accounts, car loans and other consumer loans, mortgage loans, credit cards and other card products, and most other products and services you would expect to find at a full-service financial institution.

Cape Fear Credit Union merged with Self-Help Credit Union in July 2006, and operates as a division of Self-Help Credit Union.  The new Leland branch opened for business on October 1, 2009.

Self-Help Credit Union is an affiliate organization of Self-Help (www.self-help.org). Self-Help is a North Carolina-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to create ownership and economic opportunity through financing for home ownership, small businesses, and community facilities; downtown revitalization and affordable housing development; and by providing responsible consumer financial services for its members.
