North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives Award 52 Basketball Camp Scholarships

RALEIGH, N.C. — More than 50 students from across North Carolina have won Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships to attend basketball camp on two of North Carolina’s largest college campuses this summer.

Twenty-six young men will attend the five-day Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill June 16-20, and 26 young ladies will spend June 24-27 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh for the Kellie Harper Basketball Academy. The scholarships are sponsored by North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives and are available to middle-school students every year.

“North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives are proud to continue our tradition of giving outstanding young people from across the state the chance to work with collegiate coaches and experience the thrill of playing on a college basketball court,” said Lindsey Listrom, community relations specialist for North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives. “These kids are truly exceptional students and community members, and we’re honored to reward their hard work with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Scholarship winners were selected based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and essays about their goals and why they would like to attend the camp.

Campers will stay overnight in dorms on campus and work directly with the championship-winning coaches at the June camps. The Carolina camp is led by two-time ACC Coach of the Year Roy Williams and current and former Tar Heel players. The N.C. State camp is staffed by women’s head coach Kellie Harper and Wolfpack Women players. Staff at both camps will work with campers to set goals and develop fundamental skills that will help them excel both on and off the court.

This is the ninth year that the state’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives have sent young women to camp at N.C. State and the seventh year that the cooperatives have awarded scholarships to the Roy Williams camp.
