  • They are not cutting enough – 62%
  • They are cutting too much and should raise taxes to generate additional revenues – 25%
  • They are cutting just the right amount – 7%
  • Not sure – 3%
  • They are cutting too much, but I don’t want them to raise taxes either – 2%

Cape Fear Business News recently conducted an online poll regarding transportation priorities in southeastern North Carolina.

The question: What do you think should be the top transportation priority in southeastern North Carolina?

The results:

  • Completing the I-140 bypass from Hwy 421 to US 74 and eventually US 17 in Brunswick County:  32%
  • Adding lanes to the US 17/74/76 causeway between Wilmington and Leland:  16%
  • Building the proposed Skyway Bridge across the Cape Fear River:  9%

For the past several weeks, Cape Fear Business News has been running an online poll on the fate of the Bush Tax Cuts.

The question: There is currently a debate over the future of the Bush tax cuts. What do you think Congress should do?

The results:

  • Extend the tax cuts for all but the wealthiest Americans (33%)
  • Extend them all and pass additional tax cuts (33%)
  • Let them expire (17%)
  • Make them permanent (11%)

CFBN Poll Results on the 1099 mandate in the new healthcare law

Cape Fear Business News recently asked readers their opinion of the 1099 mandate in the new healthcare reform law.

The issue: The healthcare reform law mandates that all companies issue 1099 tax forms not just to contract workers but to any individual or corporation from which they buy more than $600 in a year.

The results:

  • 67% – This provision has nothing to do with healthcare and will further harm our struggling economy by creating an added, unnecessary burden on business owners

Results of CFBN Poll: Who do you trust to stop the leak and clean up the oil spill?

For the past several weeks Cape Fear Business News has been running an online poll related to the Gulf oil spill.

The question:  “If forced to choose, who do you think would do a better job of stopping the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico and cleaning up the oil spill?”

The results:

  • BP:  91%
  • The federal government:  9%.

CFBN Poll Results on the flag controversy in the Town of Leland

Cape Fear Business News’ most recent online poll question was “The Town of Leland is threatening to fine the owners of the Buy n’ Go Convenience Store because their American flag is “too big”, saying it violates the town’s ordinances. What is your opinion?”

The results:

  • 66%:  This is what happens when bureaucrats get so hung up on policies that they forget about people. Sounds like the town needs a change in leadership.

Results of online poll regarding the biggest challenges facing business owners

The question posed in Cape Fear Business News‘ most recent online poll was: What is the biggest challenge you face in terms of growing your business?

The results:

  • The economy – people just aren’t spending money (57%)
  • Finding time to get it all done (29%)
  • Cash flow (14%)
  • Finding qualified, reliable employees (0%)
  • Figuring out the best way to market ourselves (0%).

Cape Fear Business News’ most recent online poll question was:   Do you think the healthcare reform bill that was signed into law this week should be repealed? (the question was posted shortly after President Obama signed the bill into law).

The results:

  • A Resounding Yes!:  64%
  • Absolutely Not!:  32%
  • While I did not support the bill, it is time to move on:  2%
  • I’m not sure:  2%.

Main Street Biz: With the busyness holidays and the start of the New Year, Main Street Biz has been delinquent in posting the results of our online poll over media coverage of the Tiger Woods scandal.

The question was:  What is your view of the mainstream media’s coverage of Tiger Woods’ recent scandals?

At long last, here are the results:

  • 66%:  Overkill; they are giving it way too much attention, and there is much more important news to cover
