Home Builders Association announces new staff member

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Hannah Lane has joined the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association (WCFHBA) as Director of Marketing and Communications.  Prior to joining the WCFHBA Lane served as Marketing Coordinator for the National Association for Weight Loss Surgery, where she was responsible for assisting with the branding and communications needs of the company.

Lane received a B.A. in Communications Studies and a minor in English from University of North Carolina-Wilmington.  In her new position she will be responsible for all Association marketing materials, serve as a media liaison and assist with Association events.

Home Builders’ Green Building Council Receives Nation Recognition

wcfhbaWILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association’s (WCFHBA) Green Building Council (GBC) has been recognized by the National Association of Home Builders Green program (NAHBGreen) as the affiliate with the highest number of certified green projects in the nation for 2008. A total of 16 certified building projects were completed by WCFHBA members last year.

Southeast Brunswick Sanitary District Raises Rates for Builders and Customers

Southport, NC – As of September 1 the Southeast (SE) Brunswick Sanitary District raised all developmental fees as well as overall customer rates. Sewer impact fees on new construction for single-family homes went from $6000 to $8000 per unit, while the customer rates went up to $30 minimum for the first 4,000 gallons used and $12 dollars per additional 1,000 gallons.

Wilmington, NC – Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association (WCFHBA) members report signs that the local building industry has improved. Local builders echoed the optimism created by the report released Tuesday, August 18, showing a continued five-month increase in construction.

 “Our members were hard hit by the housing crisis last fall. In response, many of them scaled back and concentrated on their inventory. For most, waiting out the storm paid off with construction picking up again this past spring. The report published in the Star News this week solidifies what our members have been reporting over the past few months as the housing industry continues to gain momentum,” said Jeff Stokley, WCFHBA President and CEO of Stokley Development Corp.

Home Builders announce passage of key legislative priority

State CapitolWILMINGTON, NC – The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association (WCFHBA), in conjunction with the Business Alliance for a Sound Economy (BASE), recently announced that one of their priority legislative items for the 2009-2010 General Assembly Session has become a state law. On Friday, June 12, Governor Beverly Purdue signed into law Senate Bill 52 (Various Localities Energy Dev. Incentives). The bill will give all of the municipalities and counties within North Carolina the authority to offer developmental incentives in exchange for the reduction of energy consumption.

Home Builders’ Association announces 23rd Parade of Homes winners

The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association has announced the winners of gold, silver and bronze awards for the 23rd Parade of Homes. This year is the first year to also feature the Coastal GREEN Built awards including the first Government/Leaders Award presented to a governmental or civic group that has worked to allow and encourage green practices in building and development. A panel of 20 judges from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia independently judged all aspects of the homes including exteriors and interiors, kitchens, master bedrooms, floor plans, quality of materials, craftsmanship and overall design/impression.

Porters Neck resident wins Compass Pointe “Swing Into Spring” hole-in-one golf challenge

LELAND, NC – Robert “Bob” Skrzycki of Porters Neck won this weekend’s Hole-in-One Challenge at Compass Pointe in Leland, North Carolina.

A putt-off was held to determine a winner of the competition after no hole-in-one was achieved during the two-day event.   Skrzycki sunk the winning putt during the second round of the putt-off.
