RESTON, VA — comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released results of a U.S. study of mobile map usage based on data from its comScore MobiLens service. The study found that 48 million mobile users accessed maps on their mobile device during the three month average period ending May 2011, an increase of 39 percent from the previous year, driven in large part by the increase in smartphone adoption. The study found that map usage via mobile applications was the primary access point for smartphone owners as the map app audience doubled in size over the past year.

Opinion: New Communications Law Will Protect Taxpayer, Help Economy

In early May, Republican majorities in the North Carolina Senate and House of Representatives passed House Bill 129, legislation to level the playing field between publicly- and privately-owned communications networks. HB 129 will have two long-lasting positive effects on our state: it will make it a more attractive place for businesses to move and invest, resulting in new jobs and higher economic growth, and it will force local governments to prioritize funding for public networks, which will eventually save taxpayers millions of dollars.

(NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, released data Tuesday from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending May 2011. The study surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and found Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 24.8 percent market share. Google Android led among smartphone platforms with 38.1 percent market share.

Nearly 1 in 5 Smartphone Owners Access Check-In Services Via their Mobile Device
RESTON, VA — comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released the results from a study of mobile social networking check-in service users based on data from its comScore MobiLens service. The study found that 16.7 million U.S. mobile subscribers used location-based “check-in” services on their phones in March 2011, representing 7.1 percent of the entire mobile population. 12.7 million check-in users did so on a smartphone, representing 17.6 percent of the smartphone population. The study also found that check-in service users showed a high propensity for mobile media usage, including accessing retail sites and shopping guides, and displayed other characteristics of early adopters, including a stronger likelihood of owning a tablet device and accessing tech news, when compared to the average smartphone user.

Verizon Foundation Announces $80,000 Grant and Employee-Donation Matching Program to Support Tornado Recovery Efforts in Southeastern U.S.
ATLANTA — The Verizon Foundation has awarded an $80,000 grant to the Salvation Army, southern territory to assist relief efforts in communities affected by recent tornados.
In addition, the Verizon Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar donations by U.S.-based Verizon employees, up to $1,000 per employee per year, through its disaster relief incentive program. The program will match donations to the American Red Cross, Save the Children and the Salvation Army.

ATMC Wireless Expands 3G Coverage

Shallotte, NC – ATMC’s 52nd Annual Meeting was an evening filled with fun and excitement. Over 2700 people gathered at The Odell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College to enjoy the festivities. A barbecue pork and fried chicken dinner was served, along with homemade ice cream.

SHALLOTTE, NC – ATMC recently presented one student from each of the three Brunswick County public high schools with a $1000 scholarship.

Quinten Johnson, the North Brunswick High School recipient, is the son of Sharon Daniels of Leland. He was a scholar athlete who has been involved in a variety of school and extra-curricular activities. He played on the football and track teams and was a member of ROCAME and the DECA Club and the Drama Club. He was also a peer tutor and a media assistant. Quinten plans to attend UNC-Wilmington, where he will major in Performing Arts – Theatre.
