OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. –  Brunswick County Chairman Randy Thompson declared a state of emergency effective 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 in response to the loss of life, injuries, and properties damaged by the tornado that impacted the Ocean Isle Beach area early Tuesday morning.

If other measures become appropriate, this proclamation will be amended.

There are three confirmed fatalities and 10 confirmed injuries as a result of the tornado; at least 60 properties also sustained various damages. Public safety teams have transitioned to supporting recovery efforts for the affected areas of Ocean Isle Beach.
