Longtime Dosher Physician, Douglas Hiltz, MD, announces retirement

SOUTHPORT, N.C. — Douglas Hiltz, MD, an internal medicine physician who has practiced in Southport since 1989, announced his retirement this week. Dr. Hiltz will continue to treat patients through January 14, 2022.

Hiltz graduated from Albany Medical College and completed his internship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After his residency at the University and Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he immediately relocated to Southport to begin private practice. In addition to treating primary care patients, Dr. Hiltz had worked in the Emergency Department at Dosher through 2017, is a former Chief of Medical Staff, and was a member of the Physician Advisory Board.    

“Dr. Hiltz has been a loyal and valued member of our medical staff,” said Dr. Brad Hilaman, MD, Dosher CEO and CMO. “We thank him for his exceptional patient care and know he will be missed by many.”

Dr. Hiltz and his family plan to remain in the area.

Patients of Dr. Hiltz may request to establish themselves with another physician within the Dosher provider network who is currently accepting new patients or find another provider of their choice.
